I started off my work life as a sailor. I worked first on historic wooden tallships, Racing Yachts, and then went on to work on Tugboats. Though I still am very passionate about sailing and boats in general I decided the lifestyle was not necessarily for me at the time. In 2002 I left the industry to try my hand at marketing. This is how it all began; I started work as a salesman for a Marketing service called Search Engine Optimisation. The firm I began work for in the United States was very groundbreaking in that most people had not even heard of Search Engine Optimisation let alone specialised in it. As a salesman I was mediocre to begin, until I began staying after work and trying to learn how the people who did the work actually perform the work.
This is how my obsession began; I was so interested that I was usually at work until 4:30AM teaching myself web development and Search Engine Optimisation at the same time. From this I obtained some great sales skills, I was able to present the service in great detail, and educate potential clients to the value of the service.
After one year of this I was getting so adept at it that the owner of the business asked me if I could so some work on client’s sites, since we were expanding so fast. Within 3 months I was managing the production department!
Whilst I loved what I was doing; my partner at the time (don’t worry ladies I am currently single) wanted to come to Australia to obtain her master’s degree. I decided to move to Cairns for a sea change and was able to eventually get a job with a local Cairns Web Design company doing their internet marketing work for them.
Since obtaining my residency in Cairns Australia in December 2008 I have decided to create a company in Cairns that only does Search Engine Optimisation. I feel this is important as there is currently a void for businesses to obtain objective information about web marketing without utilising a web designer, who let’s face it often do 99% web design and 1% marketing and charge up to $125 an hour!
My business is simple I focus on the marketing of your website; I will not design it, or market it offline. Also, I will charge you a reasonable $110 per hour!
